PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — There have been several reports of car break-ins at the parking garage on Clay and 3rd in downtown Portland.
Construction supervisor Tim Maxson is one of the latest victims. He says the passenger window of his truck was smashed in and a $12,000 custom-built racing bike was stolen from the back.
“It made me sick to my stomach,” said Maxson.
Maxson says it took three 911 calls for him to get a hold of Portland police.
“They said go online and fill out a police report,” he said. “I said ‘we’re talking about a very expensive bike, I’d like a police officer to come out’. They said that’s not going to happen.”
Police later informed Maxson that the bike theft was a priority 7 incident, and they only responded to incidents of priority 2 or higher.
After that, Maxson turned his hopes to the parking garage company City Center Parking. They informed him that there weren’t any security cameras inside the garage.
We called the company ourselves and were told they’d already contracted a security company to perform patrols throughout the day.
The patrols haven’t stopped the break-ins. Maxson says of his 50 person construction crew, four of them have had their cars broken into, and they’ve only been working downtown since February.
