MEDFORD, Ore. (KOIN) – A federal grand jury handed down new charges for a man accused of threatening to kill President Barack Obama.

On Tuesday, John Martin Roos made his first court appearance before Magistrate Judge Mark D. Clarke.

The United States Attorney’s Office on Wednesday submitted the grand jury’s indictment that charges Roos with eight counts of making threats against the President of the United States and two counts of making threats against federal law enforcement officers.

In the indictment, prosecutors claim that Roos wrote on Twitter that “I will kill Obamna (sic) personally.”

When FBI agents searched his Medford apartment, they found pipe bombs.

Roos will be arraigned on the grand jury indictment on May 11. The case has been assigned to Judge Michael J. McShane.
