GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) – A 22-year-old man died after being shot by police after they responded to an “active” domestic violence situation.
Gresham Police spokesperson Officer John Rasmussen said police started getting multiple calls around 3 a.m. on Tuesday from neighbors in the area of 187th and Grant. The callers were reporting an active altercation between a man and woman.
When officers arrived, they confronted the 22-year-old man in the street. At least one officer discharged their firearm, Rasmussen said.
Police have not said what prompted the officer to shoot.
The 22-year-old man died on scene, according to police.
The East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team has responded to investigate. A representative from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office has also responded, which standard procedure following any deadly officer involved shooting.
Southeast 190th is closed but there are no major traffic delays.
