ST. HELENS, Ore. (KOIN) — A homeowner and burglar fought after the homeowner walked in on the thief late Thursday afternoon in St. Helens, prompting a manhunt for the assailant.
St. Helens Police Chief Terry Moss tells KOIN 6 News they are investigating the incident that occurred at 125 S. 16th Street.
The homeowner came home to find the burglar rummaging through his belongings. A fight ensued and the homeowner was assaulted.

Police say the intruder didn’t use a weapon, but the homeowner was beaten up with non-life threatening injuries. It’s unclear if the burglar got away with anything.
Neighbors are left anxious Thursday night, knowing the man who broke into their friend’s home is still on the loose.
Debra Bradfield lives across the street.
“That’s such a violation,” Bradfield told KOIN. “I’m sorry but that’s sad. I hope he’s going to be okay.”
Bradfield said her neighbor lives alone.
“Oh my goodness,” said neighbor Christina Sickler. “It’s across the street and the police station is like 2 blocks that way.”
Neighbors are keeping a lookout for the suspect, a white man in his 30s wearing a grey hoodie and carrying a black bag.
“It’s a little scary to know they’re still out there running around,” Bradfield said.
Police tell KOIN detectives hope to speak more with the homeowner after he receives treatment at the hospital.
