PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man who forced his girlfriend to strip in a park and then attempted three times to shoot her has been sentenced to nearly 21 years in prison.
The Oregonian/OregonianLive reports Joshua Ward was found guilty Friday of attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, assault and drug crimes following a two-day bench trial.
The 31-year-old told the judge in Clackamas County Circuit Court he was guilty and that the sentence was a good thing.
Prosecutors say Ward became angry Feb. 26 after finding voicemails on his girlfriend’s phone from an ex-boyfriend.
Ward later ordered his girlfriend to remove her clothes in an Estacada park before he attempted to shoot her three times. The pistol didn’t fire.
He then drove them to a bar, where she slipped a note to a bartender asking him to call police.
