Salem traffic stop becomes home invasion, arrest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 27-year-old man who fled from a traffic stop was later arrested by Salem police after a home invasion and brief standoff.

Carlos Francisco Calzadillas Jr. first fled from a traffic stop near Beverly NE and Phipps Ln NE around 3:30 a.m. A police officer tried to stop him because the car he was driving was stolen.

Calzadillas fled on foot and the officer who tried to pull him over spotted a handgun in his hand. The officer also heard what sounded like a gunshot and lost sight of him.

Shortly after, police received reports from a homeowner in the 2600 block of Phipps Ln NE that someone was inside their home. The people inside the house were able to flee and police surrounded it. Calzadillas surrendered within 20 minutes and was arrested.

A handgun was found in the yard next to the house Calzadillas broke into. He is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, burglary in the first degree, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and outstanding warrants for parole violation, failure to appear and theft in the third degree.
