SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — A Salem woman was arrested Saturday, less than a month after neighbors told deputies they were concerned about her horse’s welfare.
Deputies went to 46-year-old Randi Solorzano’s home on the 7400 block of Conifer Street NE on July 29 and said they were “instantly concerned” about the horse. The animal’s ribs and hips were “clearly showing”, according to deputies.

Solorzano said Doug, her 20-year-old horse, was being treated by a veterinarian for a dental condition that was preventing him from eating. Deputies contacted the veterinarian who told them the horse was placed on medication to help him gain weight.
Deputies reportedly worked closely with the veterinarian and drove by Solorzano’s property regularly to monitor Doug’s condition, Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Saturday, authorities executed a search warrant at Solorzano’s house and arrested her for second-degree animal neglect. They took Doug to a rescue center where he’s reportedly receiving the care he needs in order to recover.
Solorzano was released from jail and will appear in court September 12.
