PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – After hours of waiting and surrounding an apartment in the Kerns neighborhood, a man believed to be having a mental health crisis was safely taken by Portland police Monday afternoon.
PPB Sgt. Pete Simpson said they originally went to the area after receiving reports of a burglary. They then learned the man also tried to break into a truck and another apartment.
Officers evacuated Oregon Park, which spans Northeast Oregon and Northeast Hoyt, between Northeast 29-30th.
The man was not believed to be armed or dangerous.
However, police said he did not comply with their orders and he was Tased around 1 p.m. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and will later be booked on multiple charges.
His name has not yet been released.
