PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In a rare late night press conference, Multnomah County officials announced scammers got hold of thousands of phone numbers and are making calls demanding credit card information — or else be served with a warrant.

Erika Preuitt with the Department of Community Justice said most of the phone numbers are people who are on parole and probation. The scam also caught the attention of the Oregon State Police and the FBI.

Officials said if you get one of these calls, hang up immediately and call the police.
