PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two people were detained by police after the driver rammed a police car, drove on a sidewalk, then went the wrong way on SW 4th Avenue before colliding with another car in front of City Hall.
The incident began around 1:30 p.m. when Portland police tried to contact an intoxicated person sitting inside a running car in a parking lot at 2079 W. Burnside, police said.
The driver backed into the police car, took off and headed east. A police officer stopped the pursuit because of the erratic driving, officials said.
But other officers were notified and after the driver hit the other car on SW 4th, he turned onto Jefferson before crashing near SW 3rd.
A man was detained by a passerby until police got there. A woman was also taken by police.
Earlier reports that a pedestrian may have been hit near Portland City Hall proved to be unfounded.
KOIN 6 News will have more information as it develops.
