OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN) – A former counselor and track coach for Rex Putnam High School will appear in court on Thursday after being indicted by a grand jury.

We’ve learned that Ryan Aleweshez Mitchell, of Wilsonville, is charged with four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, two counts of second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse and two counts of official misconduct. He turned himself into police last month.

In a letter sent home to parents in October, the principal of the high school said they learned of the “credible” report in August 2014 and put Mitchell on administrative leave.

While the investigation was conducted, Mitchell resigned.

According to the Oregonian, Mitchell played as a safety for the Oregon Ducks from 1999-2000.

Court documents show that Mitchell used his position within the school system to engage in sexual conduct with at least one female student.

Records show that Mitchell has retained criminal defense attorney Michael Paul De Muniz. Attempts to reach him for comment have not been immediately successful.
