Protester indicted for damage in Portland riot

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A grand jury returned an 8-count indictment against Mateen Abdul Shaheed who is accused of causing extensive damage during a riot in Portland.

Shaheed remains at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail with bail set at $250,000. He will be arraigned Wednesday morning.

According to the indictment, Shaheed caused damage to property belonging to Toyota of Portland, TriMet, the City of Portland and burned property belonging to the Portland Tribune.

The indictment also identifies a 20-year-old man who was indicted with one count of first-degree criminal mischief. The case against that man is currently in warrant status.

The Nov. 10 riot in Portland caused an estimated $1 million in damage, according to Portland Police Chief Mike Marshman.

Records show that Shaheed caused at least $50,000 in damage by smashing out vehicle windows in Northeast Portland and damaging property belonging to TriMet.
