PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man is in custody after police said a 911 caller reported hearing gunfire and a woman screaming in the area of NE Portland Highway and NE 45th Avenue.

The PPB Special Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation team were called to check on the people in the house and speak to the suspect. They determined everyone was safe and were able get a man to surrender.
Police are still investigating whether there was a gun involved.
Police said the area is secure and there is no threat to the public. People who were evacuate from their home or asked to shelter in place are able to return to normal.
A stretch of NE Portland Highway was closed while police investigated but has since reopened.
