Police responded to a disturbance call Sunday afternoon  at 109 Cedar Ave. and found 49-year-old John Armitage dead inside his home.

The 2 brothers allegedly got into a fight around 2:30 p.m. Tillamook Police Chief Terry Wright said the brothers didn’t get along.

After the incident, John’s 42-year-old brother Jared Armitage drove to the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office to turn himself in. He was taken into custody and charged with 1 count of murder.

Neighbors said they called 911 after hearing an argument and reportedly saw a man enter John’s home with a rifle. Police said Jared entered John’s home with a “weapon.”

It’s currently unclear what caused John’s death.

Jared is lodged at the Tillamook County Jail.
