PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 65-year-old woman was physically and sexually assaulted by a man who broke into her home and then stole her car, Portland police said.

The attack in the 1700 block of NE Irving Street happened around 6 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

Neighbors at the apartment complex are in disbelief after hearing about the incident, especially because police said the man was a complete stranger.

Bob Everroad, who lives in the complex, told KOIN 6 News what he witnessed Monday morning.

“This guy came and broke in and held this woman, put his hand over her mouth, beats her savagely,” Everroad said.

According to Everroad, the woman was able to escape the man by offering him her Prius. Neighbors said they later saw the victim moving out with what appeared to be her relatives.

The suspect has been on the run since Monday’s incident.

Police are looking for a Hispanic man between 20 and 30, about 5-feet-9, with tattoos on his chest and arm and a goatee. He was wearing only jeans, according to police.

The stolen car, a silver Toyota Prius, was found Monday night in the area of Southeast 99th Avenue and Stark Street.

The suspect has not been located.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Todd Prosser at 503.823.0400.
