PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police responded to a domestic violence incident early Monday morning.
Officers responded to the Alderwood Apartments in the 17200 block of SE Alder Street around 3 a.m. after a woman’s family reported her male partner had assaulted her. Police tried to contact the woman and her partner but weren’t able to.
A man was eventually forced out of the apartment and taken into custody. Shortly after, police spoke with family members who had arrived at the scene, and they appeared distraught.
Portland police confirmed a woman was found dead. Homicide detectives are investigating and an autopsy will be performed. She will not be identified until her family is notified of her death.
Neighbors told KOIN 6 News they heard arguing earlier in the night. Police said the man is known to them and possibly had access to firearms.
Officers shut down several blocks in the area and evacuated nearby apartments.
