FOREST GROVE, Ore. (KOIN) — The drunk driver who hit and killed a 22-year-old man as he walked to work in March will spend nearly 6 years in prison.

Bethany Morgan Lumber pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and DUI for the March 18 crash that killed Jonathan Dominguez-Esquivel on Pacific Avenue near Highway 47 in Forest Grove, police said Monday.

Esquivel was walking to his job at Safeway when he was hit by Lumber. Officers who arrived on the scene found Esquivel in a ditch with critical injuries. He was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital via Life Flight but, despite extensive life-saving efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Lumber’s blood alcohol content after the crash was .20, more than twice the legal limit.

She was sentenced to 70 months (5 years, 10 months) in prison and has lost driving privileges for the rest of her life.
