VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — The visitor’s locker room doors at Fort Vancouver High School, according to a Vancouver Public School District spokesperson, were supposed to be locked.

But on Wednesday night that wasn’t the case. During a basketball game, La Center players had their visiting locker room infiltrated. KOIN 6 News learned players had $200-300 stolen along with 5 smart phones and other valuables.

“It’s so disappointing,”  said Trena Kelley, whose son is on the team and had his valuables stolen. “So disappointing, and I thought about it and this time of the year especially with Christmas right around the corner.”

The school district elected not to talk on camera, but they did tell KOIN 6 News someone from the city’s police department is investigating the incident. Police said there aren’t any suspects yet. La Center parents said Fort Vancouver is working to reimburse players for the stolen items.

The school district spokesperson said the school procedure has always been to lock the doors, but still have players take their valuables with them. Two parents from La Center, Kelley and Susan Norris, said there was no secure place inside the gym to place valuable items. They assumed their stuff would be safe inside the locker room.

Now, Kelley and Norris hope that other visiting teams won’t experience the same thing.

“I heard from my son that he has heard on social media when they put it out that their stuff was stolen other people have experienced this at this school,” Norris said.

Kelley added: “I would like them to prevent this from happening to other people. Obviously they have some security issues there.”
