WOODLAND, Wash. (KOIN) — Two people, including a man wanted for murder in Klamath Falls, were arrested Sunday morning after a brief pursuit that ended near the Walmart in Woodland.
Matthew D. Reyes and Kareesa M. Dean were taken into custody without incident after a Cowlitz County deputy used a specialized maneuver to stop their car on Dike Road, about a mile south of the Walmart, the sheriff’s office said in a release.
Three separate law enforcement agencies — the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol and Woodland Police — were all involved following separate 911 calls.
The first call sent deputies to the 16000 block of Lewis River Road, near Cougar, Washington. A resident said a man and woman broke into their house and assaulted them. Their injuries are not life-threatening, officials said.
A second 911 call reported a man and woman had been carjacked at gunpoint. Investigators found that vehicle abandoned but a red Nissan was missing.
The Nissan was spotted on SR-503 and after a short pursuit the Cowlitz deputy used a specific technique to stop the car.
Reyes, 36, and the 31-year-old Dean will face charges of at least 1st-degree robbery and carjacking. Reyes also will be booked on the Klamath Falls murder.
Reyes was wanted in the killing of 57-year-old Rick Aston, whose throat was cut at a motel in Klamath Falls early this month. Investigators said a witness told them the killing may have been related to a noise complaint.
