VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — An intruder who touched the leg of a sleeping teenage girl inside her Vancouver apartment is being sought by police.

The incident reportedly happened at the Prairie View Apartments, 12611 NE 99th, just before 3 a.m. Thursday, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said. The 16-year-old woke up when she felt her blankets move and a man’s hand touched her leg.

The teen’s mother — whose identity KOIN 6 News is not revealing — said she “stupidly left my sliding glass door open.”

She woke up when her daughter was screaming frantically, she said. By the time her daughter told her what happened, the suspect was gone.

Her daughter, who fell asleep on a recliner while watching TV, told her the man pulled the blanket off the sleeping girl. She awoke, panicked and called for her mother.

“It made him get scared. He told her to shut up and he shushed her all the way out the door,” the mother said. The teen told police the man jumped from the second story patio.

She shut and locked the door and called 911, she said. Police arrived within minutes.

“I didn’t see anybody jumping off the balcony or anything. I just locked and slammed the door and let him know we had a gun.”

The suspect is described as a white man with a fat, wide face, about 5-feet-10 and between 20 and 30 years old. The teen said the suspect was wearing a dark shirt and pajama bottoms and was touching, but not exposing, himself.

Neighbor Damion Morningstar told KOIN 6 News he heard screaming.

“I took a peak outside and that’s when I saw someone running, and that invididual ran as fast as he could,” Morningstar said.

A K-9 was brought in to track the suspect but wasn’t able to find anyone. A containment area was set up near the complex, but that search was also unsuccessful.

The mother said her teen hasn’t been out of the house since it happened. Now, she just wants the suspect caught.

“That would really help her head, I think, and just for this to all die down,” the mother said. “I want to get this guy. I want to get him.”
