Luccas McNeill’s family hopes answers bring closure

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — It’s been days since 28-year-old Luccas McNeill was killed and his family is left with so many questions.

Police don’t know who killed him, or why it happened.

McNeill was a security guard, patrolling around NE 81st Ave. when he was shot. In addition to his full-time security job, McNeill was also the caretaker for his disabled mother and sister, Lucy.

McNeill was described as a savior to his loved ones.

“I’m not right, my mom’s not right, none of us are right,” Lucy McNeill said. “I’m still waiting for him to come home, but he’s not gonna.”

Lucy says support from family, friends and even strangers are making the loss easier.

“I have moments when I laugh because I have good memories,” Lucy said. “I have moments where I’m just absolutely distraught because I’ll see a [picture] and I’ll just burst out.”

McNeill was found dead in the street in Portland’s Madison South neighborhood. Witnesses said they heard gunfire and a car speeding away, but police don’t have a good description of the suspect.

Police area offering a reward for tips that lead to an arrest in the case. That information would be valuable for police to make an arrest, but also to the family, who need closure.

“We just want answers. We don’t even want punishment,” Lucy said. “I mean obviously they need to be punished but we don’t want them to be punished. We just want answers.”

There is a public vigil is planned for McNeill on Saturday, August 13 at 7 p.m. at Red Sunset Park.
