TIGARD, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman was seriously injured in an attack on a Tigard street corner that was seen by passers-by who rendered help and contacted police.
Daniel Ortiz, 17, is now facing attempted murder charges for the attack that happened Saturday around 8 p.m. at Walnut Street and 114th Avenue, Tigard police said.
Ortiz was charged as an adult in court on Monday.
Two women driving through the area witnessed the confrontation. They reportedly stopped their car and found a 59-year-old woman seriously hurt.
One of them stayed with the woman while the other tried to track down the suspect.
“A car pulled up and it was a lady that was knocking on our door saying that she was following a man who had punched a woman walking her dog,” a neighbor told KOIN 6 News.
Police said the teenage suspect was spotted running between homes and was later found by Tigard officers and a K-9.
A kitchen-style knife was later found by investigators and is believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
The woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Ortiz is being held in Portland’s Donald E. Long Detention Center.
