PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An armed man was arrested after he reportedly fought with officers who were called to the area on reports of a possible burglary early Sunday morning, police said.

Police arrived at SE 143rd Avenue and Stephens Street around 4 a.m. when they came across 2 men and a woman loading and unloading items from a white 1993 Dodge pickup truck, Portland Police Bureau said.

As officers checked them for weapons, 35-year-old Joshua Lee Crocker reportedly started to run away.

Police quickly caught up to Crocker who turned and swung a fist at an officer, police said. They got into a violent struggle when another officer reportedly saw Crocker clenching a handgun between his thighs.

The officer grabbed the gun and threw it away from them. The struggle continued as officers tried to get Crocker into custody. They reportedly used pepper spray on him, but it had little effect.

A PPB sergeant arrived on the scene to help take Crocker into custody. Once he was in custody, officers reportedly discovered he was wearing a camouflaged tactical vest with a large, dagger knife under his jacket.

Due to concerns Crocker was under the influence of stimulants, and because of his visible injuries, police sent him to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Crocker was booked into Multnomah County Jail on charges of felony possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, 2 counts of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, interfering with a peace officer, felony possession of a restricted weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

He will be arraigned on Monday.

The woman contacted by officers, 36-year-old Nicole Marie Williams, was booked into jail on outstanding warrants for first-degree child neglect and third-degree manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance.

The driver, a 62-year-old man, cooperated with police and was released from the scene.
