PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One man is in custody and another being sought after allegedly stealing a trailer, but crashed it during a chase by the owner and witnesses.
The crime happened around 11:35 a.m. in the 2200 block of SE 159th but ended in the 14700 block of SE Powell, Portland police said.
The trailer’s owner saw the pair stealing the trailer and began to chase them. The thieves were driving a Ford Ranger which jackknifed during the chase. The trailer detached but the Ford kept going. The trailer’s owner stopped but witnesses kept chasing, police said.
The Ford then crashed at SE 147th and Powell and the suspects ran. A K9 from Clackamas County joined the search and found one man, but the second escaped and is still being sought.
The man in custody, 56-year-old Mark Lawson, faces a charge of 1st-degree theft, police said.
